Relaxed newborn photos at home in Crozet

You may think you want to schedule newborn photos at home, but logistically, it seems like it could be stressful, right? Good news – relaxed newborn photos at home are both totally possible and deliciously beautiful. This crew had just recently moved to Crozet only a month before their third son was born. Still, these

Fresh 48 session with a new family of 4

This fresh 48 session with a new family of 4 was such a precious reminder of the beauty of family. If you’ve never heard of this type of session, it’s different than a typical newborn session because it takes place in the hospital within the first 48 hours of birth. The emotion is raw, often

A cozy newborn session at home in Charlottesville

This cozy newborn session at home took place as snow flurried outside and the grey dreariness wrapped the home in clouds. We were confined to the windows in the front two rooms of the house and the narrow nook of their entry with the front door open. It whipped snowflakes on my back as they

    2021 Client Dundee Awards + Behind-the-Scenes

4 Tips for lifestyle newborn photos with 2 under 2

While newborn photos of #2 might be something parents know they want, there’s a good chance the idea is intimidating. Lifestyle sessions are actually PERFECT for families in this season, though, for a few reasons. Here’s some of the ways that I approach a newborn session with 2 under 2 to keep the stress low and still create images that tell a piece of story.

A look at adaptive parenting from quadriplegic mom of twins

When Dani reached out last November, we were both pregnant, due around the same time, and met for coffee at a local shop to chat about maternity, hospital, and newborn sessions. It was all pretty typical, except for the fact that Dani is quadriplegic, and now, joins only a handful of other quadriplegic mothers ever to give birth to twins.

The Alternative to a cake smash session

I don’t really know why, but the idea of a “cake smash” is definitely a random American thing. The phrase describes the tradition of giving a child a personal birthday cake and watching him/her annihilate it. But for some reason, the tradition has become more about backdrops and props for pictures than the tradition or moment itself and what’s behind it— who’s behind it. AKA the celebration of a child (and surviving that first year as parents). Positioning a child as a prop and forcing them to dig around in icing while the cry out of of anxiety isn’t really valuable in any way. That token photo is more obligatory than meaningful.
